Here's all my fanfiction so far, save a couple of anonfics.

For One Piece, I've gathered them into shorter gen fics (under 1000 words), longer gen fics, and shippy fics regardless of length (though most are quite brief). Pairings with two fics or more get its own subsection, while the other shippy fics are collected under "Other pairings". The gen fics are in chronological order within each section, except for some chaos fills and my longest fic by far which are at the bottom. The shippy fics are in alphabetical order.

Note: It's not always easy to determine if something is gen or shippy. I've decided to largely err on the side of gen here for most iffy cases, but please note what the brief description says for those that have possible pairing subtext.
Unrequited feelings - or fics where you don't know for sure if it's mutual or not - still go under the pairing in question.

The non-One Piece fics are so few that I haven't made any kind of internal ordering.

The links here mostly go to Livejournal entries, but I also have reposted most of them to ffnet and to Archive of Our Own (AO3) as well. My ffnet account can be found here and my AO3 page here.

If you see any error here, I'd be very grateful if you point it out to me.

Made a rec list of One Piece fics for my own convenience, though I'm afraid there's still plenty of good fics not on it. More on this behind the cut.

If you see anything off about this - if I fouled up a link, or you think the summary doesn't fit the fic (esp. if you wrote the fic), please let me know! Note: This will be continually updated.

I saw a prompt online saying "Write 100 words of huddling for warmth", and while 'pure' 100-word drabbles are hard for me to do, I decided to join in. Not so much as making a real story, just writing 100 words and then stopping.

Then I sent it to [personal profile] tonko, and she replied back with 100 words of huddling for warmth on her own. Mine had been intended as shippy, (Luffy/Usopp), hers was gen, with Zoro and Chopper and also Sanji to the rescue.

I replied with Ace/Smoker, and she with Paulie/Kaya. And by that point I knew I wanted to post them. Tonko gave her permission, so here they are!

Now - I might just write more on this theme and if so I'll post it as a comment. But I'd also like to say that it's utterly cool if anyone else should want to join in with this fun little exercise in the comments!! I only ask you to please use spoiler warnings if you use new characters or events from the current One Piece manga arc. Other canons are welcome too, of course.

Merry Christmas!

Today's fanart is very non-specific. I don't have the slightest idea if Robin and Franky are on the ship or somewhere else, all I know is they're heading for some private corner to finish a bottle of whisky together!

Hello, Dreamwidth, my old friend!

For a long while now I've been amusing myself with thinking up a world set on a different planet, one with very long seasons, where people go through migrations in the spring and autumn and where their living patterns are very different in winter and summer. I haven't really bothered justifying the why of a lot of it. Much of the basic is heavily inspired by a short story by Ursula K Le Guin (which in turn seemed inspired by the lifestyle of migrating birds, although not being an ornithologist I wouldn't be able to say for sure). But some of the basics and much of the added things is just me.

I've wanted to set a long, maybe novel-length, original story in this world, but I've been very bad at coming up with a strong plot. And to be honest even the characters I think up seem awfully humdrum so far. So mostly it's just worldbuilding for the sheer fun of it, complete with conlanging detours even.

Anyway! Some weeks ago I was thinking of how people in this world might explain to themselves where the origins of some of their customs come from - I love reading creation myths and just-so-stories - and then I got the idea for this story. I think it's pretty self-contained.

The title I came up with is The Oldest Chant.

All right, I bought the Rename token and now my username is "printfogey" here on Dreamwidth as well!

However, I chose the option where links with my old username now redirects to my new one, so I don't think I need to actually redo any links. (I just tried an old fic link and yes, it redirects automatically rather than being broken.) This is great! Thank you, Dreamwidth!
printfogey: Picture of Argentinian cartoon character Mafalda (Default)
I've now changed my username on Archive Of Our Own (aka AO3) as well. Just like here on Tumblr, I’ve gone from “serrende” to “printfogey”. Bookmarks and old links may now be broken and need to be updated (though the username isn't part of the links to the fics, so maybe not).

My page of works: http://archiveofourown.org/users/printfogey/works

I also plan to change my username here on Dreamwidth the same way, too.

I just changed my Tumblr username from "serrende" to "printfogey". I came up with the latter recently as I got an Imzy account (which I haven't used much yet, though), and I rather like it.

I wonder if I should change names here on Dreamwidth, too. (And maybe LJ?) It would mean having to manually re-do all the links on my master post, which would be a hassle... but it could be worth it.

(I've felt a bit silly for a good time now to use the name of one of my original characters as my number one fandom handle, especially since I haven't actually drawn a comic with her in aaaaaages...)

Title: Don't Take The Fall Alone (Part Two)

Title: Don't Take The Fall Alone (Part One)
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Zoro/Sanji/Usopp a.k.a the Red Shirt Trio
Spoilers/setting: Set after Thriller Bark and before Sabaody
Summary: After leaving Thriller Bark, Usopp, Sanji and Zoro are all troubled for varied reasons. Usopp proves quite perceptive in some respects, less so in others.

AUTHOR'S NOTES: Written for Martianico within the exchange seeing-color and first posted to the AO3 collection for that exchange. All my thanks to my wonderful beta [personal profile] tonko, who worked hard on this story and who came up with the title, too. But the responsibility for any remaining errors are mine alone. Nitpicks are very welcome, and so is feedback in general!

DISCLAIMER: The characters and situations of One Piece are owned by their creator, Eiichiro Oda. They are used here without permission. This fic may not be used for profit and should not be reposted elsewhere without the writer's approval.
Gah, it's been so long I forgot to make a cut!! )

This summer, I've been taking part in the fanworks exchange Seeing Color, which focuses on nonwhite characters in a multitude of canons. It's my first time ever being in an exchange - they've always intimidated me before. I signed up to create one thing, and get one thing in return.

Now gifts and creators are revealed, and I got this very lovely piece of Sanji/Usopp fanart by Martianico! I find it adorable ♥.

More works for this exchange can be found here.

I also wrote a fic, but I'll post that separately in a jiffy.
printfogey: (pchan i'm sorry)
Dreamwidth gives you the opportunity to mass-lock your old entries if you have a paid account, while LJ lets you do it with a Plus Account. I had a bout of (fortunately unjustified) paranoia the other day and decided to use that opportunity for both journals, vaguely thinking it should be easy to undo.

Well, I didn't think that one through - after my fears had passed, I realised belatedly that the system wouldn't see any difference between the now-locked posts (that I wanted to make public again) and the posts that were always locked which I wish to remain so.

So now I'm slowly going through it and manually unlocking posts one by one, starting with fics and intending to move on to meta later.

If anyone reading this wanted to re-read an old post that used to be public, let me know and I'll probably unlock it for you.
printfogey: Picture of Argentinian cartoon character Mafalda (Default)
These two characters continue to haunt me! I don't feel positive yet about this ficlet/shortfic to post it on AO3, so for now I'm posting it on Dreamwidth and Tumblr and hope for feedback. Constructive criticism very happily accepted, from title choice to spelling nitpicks to anything else!

EDIT: I have now changed the title and expanded the fic somewhat. Thanks for the feedback, koraki!

I'll repost this Tumblr post I just made in response to an ask I got (I was over a week late in replying, go me.) It turned so long I wanted to put it somewhere else too. Comments as always would be awesome.

Anonymous said:
I seem to recall you saying things to the effect of Usopp being the emotional core of the crew or being a big part of meeting the emotional needs of the crew (the precise wording escapes me). Do you have any meta on that/have you posted meta on that before? I'd love to have a link to read it!

Sorry for the lateness of my reply, Anon! I wonder if I've ever said that Usopp was the emotional core of the crew - it sounds a bit too definite and exclusive to my ears - but the second wording does sound like something I could have said, yeah. I can't think of any specific meta post I've made to that effect, though. I'll put down some rambling thoughts here instead, but that's all they'll be - obviously terribly subjective, and I'm not going to include any manga pics or the like from canon to make any kind of coherent case.

Many thanks to tresdem and silverwolfcc for listening to me on Plurk about this, helping me sort out my thoughts and contributing! (Everyone should read tresdem's ongoing One Piece meta blog we-are!.)

So this scene (with more pages below the cut) from chapter 62 and volume 16 of Fullmetal Alchemist is a pretty intense one that I haven't seen discussed much. (Regrettably, the Brotherhood anime skipped it favouring a cliffhanger approach.) I wish I had the chops to do a thorough analysis re art details and page and panel composition, but instead I'll just add a few general comments focusing on Scar's part. (I think Marcoh's part is interesting as well, but it's relatively straightforward at this point.) More )

For [personal profile] tonko. One year late. I AM VERY SORRY ABOUT THAT... but hey, but now it is your birthday again! I hope you will like it. ♥♥♥

Title: Caught in the Rain
Characters/Pairing: Sanji/Usopp
Rating: PG-13 I KINDA REALLY WANTED IT TO GO HIGHER BUT... in the end this is how it turned out.
Word Count: Around 7,000
Spoilers/setting: This is set post-timeskip but fairly vague. No spoilers beyond Fishman Island. In terms of characterisation, I do take post-timeskip in account to a certain extent, but the bulk of it is based on pre-timeskip, as I feel their characters were more consistent and well-rounded then.
Summary: During an excursion to a new island, the rain forces Usopp and Sanji to stay in place and try to make a fire. Sanji has to deal with feelings he's suppressed for a long time.

Disclaimer: The characters of One Piece belong to their creator Eiichiro Oda. They are used here without permission. This fanfic is not intended and may not be used for profit in any way. Please do not repost this elsewhere without the writer's approval.

[Note: Apologies for culinary implausibility in terms of cooking time for a campfire stew. Perhaps Sanji is just that good.]

Hullo! Sorry about my scarcity. I come bearing not one, but two recommendations! One for a recently concluded webcomic, one for ongoing One Piece meta.

The first one, I thought I had raved about before, but if so I didn't tag it properly, because I can't find that now. "The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ And Amal" is a webcomic be E.L. Weaver which concluded about a month or so ago. It's a bit of a coming-out gay road movie with a strong slice-of-life-ish atmosphere, full of realistic-feeling observations, lovely art, humour and angst and drama... and great pacing, too. As for the plot, I'll quote from the "About" blurb on the website:

May 16, 2008 - In the span of a single day, Amal calls off his arranged marriage, comes out to his conservative parents, promptly gets disowned, goes on a bender... and wakes up the next morning to find TJ, a lanky, dreadlocked vagrant, frying eggs and singing Paul Simon in his kitchen.

TJ claims that the two have made a drunken pact to drive all the way from Berkeley to Providence. As it happens, Amal promised his sister he'd be there for her graduation from Brown University. And TJ, well... TJ has his own reasons.

The agreement is simple: Amal does the driving; TJ pays the way - but a 3500 mile journey leaves plenty of time for things to get complicated.

***
My second recommendation is another look at One Piece, the manga, from the beginning! This is a bit of a different angle to it than [personal profile] sara_tanaquil's ongoing re-read, which I still heartily recommend: [personal profile] we_are goes deep into themes and characterisation and relationships for each post. Warning: and unlike the former re-read series, we-are does so from the viewpoint of where the series is now (more or less), with spoilers in plain text, not hidden. Currently, we-are just concluded the Kuro arc, and I'm sure the Baratie arc will follow very soon, as we've had updates practically every day lately. This is lovely, meaty stuff, so if you're into meta on One Piece, don't hesitate to dig in! Comments are very welcome too. The master list with links to all the posts so far is here.

I actually wrote a Fullmetal Alchemist one-shot. Constructive criticism is very welcome - nitpicks very much included - as is feedback in general.

Title: If We Can Go On
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist (manga)
Characters: Dr Marcoh, Scar
Rating: PG for canon darkness and such
Word Count: 2,631 at the time of posting
Spoilers/setting: Set somewhere between chapters 77 and 78 of the manga (volume 19), looking ahead to some things to come.
Summary: A gen piece featuring Scar and Marcoh, both wondering in quite different ways about what the next step should be and if they're able and allowed to take it.

Disclaimer: The characters and situations of Fullmetal Alchemist were created and are owned by the glorious Hiromu Arakawa. They are used here without permission. This fic is not to be used for profit in any way and should not be reposted elsewhere without the writer's approval.
